So far Björk has had seven concert tours across the world. Upon launching her first album Debut she went on her very first concert tour in which she promoted the album. This tour took one year (from August 1993 to July 1994). Interestingly enough, the tour also included a support concert for U2.
The year after, Björk made the Post tour promoting the Post album. This tour was even longer and included various festivals and arenas. She performed in Europe, North America, Oceania and Asia, as well as South America.
November 1997 was marked with the launching of her album Homogenic which was followed by the Homogonenic Tour. The tour ended in 1998, but the next year Björk was engaged in the next world tour promoting her album Vespertine. This tour included her performing with Orchestra in Opera houses.
In 2003 she made a tour across Europe and North America for her Greatest Hits Tour. She performed in Stadiums and some prominent European Festivals.
Björk made a tour only after 4 years. It was Volta Tour in 2007 and it lasted two years. Again she went to Oceania and South America and performed in famous festivals, such as Coachella Festival, Glastonbury Festival, Big Day Out and Roskilde Festival.
An intriguing thing was her political opinion in which she expressed support for Kosovo and Tibet. This meant many controversies and she was not allowed to visit China.
Biophilia included children workshops from 2011 to 2013. This tour included her first concert in Africa, but it was aggravated by her vocal chords problems. In fact, this is Björk’s own explanation: “few years ago doctors found a vocal polyp on me chords … I decided to go the natural way and for 4 years did stretches and tackled it with different foods and what not . Then they discovered better technology and I got tempted into hi tech lazer stuff and I have to say , in my case anyway : surgery rocks ! I stayed quiet for 3 weeks and then started singing and definitely feel like my chords are as good as pre nodule ! it´s been very satisfying to sing all them clear notes again . I’m sorry I had to cancel stuff earlier in the year , didn’t want to talk about this until I knew for sure if it would work . So looking forward to singing for you in 2013 all the warmth , Björk.” As a singer, Björk also had various performances for charities, such as Live 8 in 2005 and 2004 Summer Olympics opening ceremony.
